ski break

ski break || Journey for JessiLast weekend was a blast!  I went down to Winter Park for the weekend to go skiing–a typical pass time for the Colorado student I have discovered.  It was a nice break to exert some energy on the snowy mountains and be at one with nature and away from the crowded gym and college campus.  I love any type of vacation that involves a physical activity paired with it like skiing, surfing, hiking, biking, etc.  Although I did have a “cheat” weekend, I always made sure to keep everything in balance too.

spring semester

spring semester || Journey for Jessi Classes resumed this week for me!  Yay college!  I actually am really excited about this semester.  What has changed?  The more difficult classes?  Longer and busier schedule?  Nope!  My new outlook on life!  Remember my New Year’s Resolutions?  Yeah, those are still going strong–if not stronger than ever!

like mother like daughter

like mother like daughter--Journey for JessiSince I am heading back to Colorado on Saturday, my mom and I spent the day together yesterday.  We spent the day exploring and shopping our backyard–meaning Houston.  We do not really venture into the city too terribly much, but when we do, when always have a blast!   Continue reading

highlights of 2014

new year, new perspective--Journey for JessiHappy New Year all!  I hope 2015 is bringing you as much inspiration and determination for you as it is for me.  This is my recap  post for the new year; I was going to do a recap and resolutions post, but it quickly will turn into a novel.  Last year I gave up Facebook for quite some time.  It was sporadic off and on.  I really enjoyed cutting the ties from Facebook.  Currently, I am back on, but once school starts again I will delete my personal page and just keep the Journey for Jessi page–so be sure to like it!   Continue reading

chocolate pomegranate smoothie

chocolate pomegranate smoothie--Journey for Jessi The weather has been foggy, rainy, dreary and “cold.”  Well, cold for Houston.  This always seems to happen when I come home.  I expect a break from the cold and the snow and want to come to the warm and sun, but here I am… oh well.  I am not letting it ruin my fun!

christmas patience and presents

christmas patience and presents--Journey for JessiChristmas eve and Christmas this year were very different.  I cannot think of a tradition that was followed to a tee this year.  I guess that is what happens when you grow older and you are the youngest in the family.  The Christmas season this year started out with a bang–maybe too much of a bang though, because my spirit slowly faded.  I felt like Cindy Lou Who from the Grinch.  I should have sung “Where are you Christmas” on repeat. home sweet texas

home sweet texas--Journey for JessiI took my last final Friday morning.  After a grueling week of being held up in the library and stressing, it was so nice to finally be finished!  Now all that was left was packing and waking up at 3:30 am Saturday morning to catch my flight.  All that was standing between me and Texas was the dreaded packing… oh, how I despise packing…  Continue reading

the jam plan

the jam plan--Journey for JessiThis has been me.  Not kidding.  Just ask my roommates.  When I get stressed or sad or depressed, I bake–I bake a lot.  But with all of that baking comes recipes, and a lot of them.  So this is beneficial for both you and I.  The recipe I am posting here is for Orange Blueberry Oat Muffins–yum right?  You can also substitute cranberries for the blueberries for more of a winter take on this recipe.  That is what I did for my secret santa in Nutrition Club.  I subbed cranberries for blueberries and made the muffins into a loaf. chasing happiness

cropped-peaceful-longing.jpg

I started this blog as a health blog in memory of my best friend Jessi a few months ago. Jessi was my best friend that I waited to emerge all my life, and the two years I knew her, though short, I felt like we had been friends our whole lives. She was the one and only person I could relate to 100%. I knew she would always understand and help me through difficult times. It has been seven months to the night now. Seven months since I lost my best friend, confidant, and sister in Christ. I miss her every single day, and it still feels as fresh as the night she passed. I have been lying to myself thinking that things have been better. But the truth is, I am very lost.

back from break

back from break--Journey for Jessi

Well, it was great while it lasted–my Thanksgiving break that is.  At least I got a full week off at home to relax, enjoy the warm weather, spoil my tummy (maybe a bit too much), and decorate the house for my favorite holiday!  ‘Tis the season.  My home in Houston just explodes with Christmas spirit and I soak every moment of it in.  This is everything holly and jolly that happened in just the two days after Thanksgiving.
